Parents who are willing are warmly encouraged to share this with their children—a glimpse into the dynamic weekly life of an inspiring young man currently pursuing a PhD in Artificial Intelligence in Australia on a full scholarship. There is no greater teacher than example, and the influence of a role model can ignite ambition in ways words alone cannot. As the proverb goes, “A single spark can start a prairie fire.”

Through his journey, may the children’s eyes be opened to a world beyond their own—to broader horizons and greater possibilities. And above all, may it plant in them the seeds of aspiration: that from a young age, they may nurture dreams worthy of the effort, and in time, earn their own full scholarships to pursue doctoral studies abroad. For where there is vision, there is hope—and with perseverance, that hope may one day take flight.

Weekly Reflection (Entry No. 11)

A Quiet Pause in a Treadmill Life

In the relentless rhythm of modern life, a well-timed pause is not a luxury but a necessity—a breath between stanzas, a rest note in the symphony of responsibility. Much like a palate cleanser between courses, a holiday serves to recalibrate our senses, restoring clarity and appreciation to the days that follow. For many in Australia, mid-April—ushering in the Easter holiday—provides just such a reprieve: a gentle interruption that invites stillness in the midst of motion.

Easter, rooted in Christian tradition, commemorates the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Australia, its observance is not only spiritual but societal. Good Friday and Easter Sunday cast a hush across the country, as shops shutter their doors, public transport slows, and even supermarkets scale back their operations. Without foresight, one might find oneself wandering empty streets in search of a cup of coffee, only to be met with silence. It is a reminder that in some moments, stillness is not an accident but an invitation.

Unlike in China—where public holidays often spark a tidal wave of domestic travel, turning landmarks into seas of people—Easter in Australia leans toward the introspective. Tourist sites remain calm, city centres subdued. Families often stay close to home, gathering around the dinner table, sharing stories, or embarking on brief getaways that prioritise rest over spectacle. It is not about the noise of doing, but the grace of being.

For university students, the Easter period also marks the mid-semester break—a time officially free from lectures and tutorials, but not devoid of obligation. Deadlines still loom, readings pile high, and unfinished assignments beckon. Yet, unlike the frenzy of term-time, this stretch affords space to breathe. It becomes an opportunity not just to catch up, but to consolidate, reorient, and work deliberately rather than reactively. I recall during my own coursework years, these breaks rarely felt like pure leisure—but the satisfaction of ticking off tasks one by one, within a quieter cadence, was its own kind of rest. And with one to two weeks at hand, there’s often room for a short retreat—a literal change of scenery to mirror the inner shift.

There is wisdom in this seasonal rhythm. As the old saying goes, “Even the finest blade must pause for sharpening.” In the midst of the rush, it’s easy to believe that progress comes only through motion. But pauses—when embraced purposefully—can be the very thing that propels us forward with greater clarity and strength. Mid-April offers not merely a gap in the calendar, but a gentle nudge to restore balance, to trade haste for reflection, and to remember that even in a race, not every step must be a sprint.

In truth, the most meaningful growth often occurs not in the frenzy of action, but in the quiet between.
